so its done! what a ride..seriously couldnt have asked for a better turn out. i thought the shows went exceptionally well we all climaxedi n our operformances and th other stage craf areas were fantastic.

even though i can tuck paula away now..i have a new character who you all met today in class..her name is the american afgahni! wooo

i think if i went back..i would improve my inout and enthusiasm durign the production dveelopement process. although i did work hard and reach the fianl product..i tended ot myb become slightly lazier then the reswt of the group..and  was slow with developing a make-up concept for the show. at least it was all done though hehe

ok i have miles to catch up on but before i start id like to give a big public thakyou to Kim!!!! Thankyou Kim for organising all that publicity and our set and taking all our crap…ur really doing an amazing job and we really apreciate it..honestly!

well with wednesday as our lines deadline, i leanr all my lines and was ready to recite. our last two rehearsals have been conducted without the usage of scripts and the occasional, well more then occasional prompts. every rehearsal i can see everyone morei n the characters..today i saw yaniv as gordan and not as yaniv it was very exciting. all the characters are comnig along beautifully and i think this is because its muich easier to act without a script in your hand, also because we all tried on our costumes and felt like our character in them.
I feel like Paula and i acre becoming one, and i sometimes find myself acting liek her at home, which is abit of a worry but i love her! I cant wait for our real bistro experience which im not letting u all forget about coz i still want to do it heheh

make up
i have drawn up the designs for all the make-up, but now i am changing alot of it for the girls to suit the new improved costumes. im meeting with Brigit mac next week during thursday lunchtime to look through makeup and decide wat i still need ot go and bye.

its so exciting that in less then 3 weeks people will be watching it and passing cruel judgment hehehe. im getting very nervy but in a good way and i am 100% sure that we are going ot pull it off!!!!!

ready steady act is my life

hey guys so i wrote up a sad little story about paula, its not very long but i think it helps ..here it goes

When Paula was a young girl she always dreamed of marrying her prince charming. She would play ‘wedding’ with her dolls and fantsize about her own perfect future wedding. She was always away with the fairies. Throughout her highschool life Paula was always known as the dreamy girl who just wondered around minding her own buisness. She never had any boy friends, but she did have many girl friends as she was genuinely likeable. the boys never liked her bcause she wasnt beuatiful and they thought she was freak.

After graduation Paula was grocery shopping and bumped into a man her age named Bob, who would soon become her first real love. Paula always believed in fate, but now she was certain it existed. After two years of romance and love shared, Paula discovered that Bob had been constantly unfaithful to the relationship and had cheated his way through it. Paula was hurt deeply, and never reall got over it, she alsio became untrusting form this experience.

She spent the next 10 years of her life working in an honest job, trying to maintrain ehr fallign friendships from school and looking after her parents who were getting old and frail.

Paula evetually received an office job where she befriended Dymphna a difficult, miserable and lonely women who she pitied, and monika a lovely yet strange lady. Paula continues to search for love and will never give up on fate bringing her prince charming.

prior to the excursion to see ‘All my Sons’ i read throigh the section in the theatre studies guide book about how to go about taking notes during the presentation. the book said to note things before the play such as publicity etc and not to take notes during hte performance as it is rude. it instructed you to take notes during uinterval and at the end on certain things seen on the stage and how they relate ot the original play script.

PRIOR TO PERFORMANCE

publicity- there was a poster out side in the foyer which had Joe and Kate Keller looking into the distance with what looked liek an explosion in the back ground. this indicates that there will be an explosion in the play whether is be a real explosion of explosion in relationships.

venue- the venue was exactly how i expected it to be as i had been there before. The professional venue made me very excited to see the play as i had high expectation for a prefossional performance.

set- there was a raked stage with no actualy centre line. there were also areas of the set which weren ot visable to the audience, although they were still part of the stage. theh osue which was stage left was on an angle and had a porch it was large and took up the hole left side fo the stage. there were tables and chairs. a swing stage right and a tree stage right. there was also a bench and a rocking chair. The house and all the frniture was painted pure white. This would bring out the darkness of the characters. the backdrop was a dark nigth sky with the faint outlines of poplars (high trees, i think thats how they are written). These are grown for provacy from neighbours.

lighting- the houselights were on and there was neutral lighting on the stage with a slight shadown on the house.

we then had a forum where the some actors and the set designer adressed questions bout the histolrical, social and cultural values and influences on the play.

FIRSTLY… i would like to make a public apology for my unreliablness on thursday and the way i let u all down and i can not tell u more how truley sorry i am to all of u….im sorry im sorry im sorry. I guess with all the work and the stress of not being able to eat bread i was invited away for the night and completely just forgot about it..but i will make it up to all by knowing all my lines hopefully when we come back.

ok back to last term.. the workshop with scotty on breathing techniques was quite interesting. we learnt how to use our diaghram and breath properly instead of using our chests. this workshop was conducted to teach us how to use our voice on theatre as it is different to having a standard conversation. This way on letting go of the gut and breathing deeply had an immense effect on my performance in the school musical ‘Joseph and the amazing techni colour dreamcoat’ as i was able to sing out on stage without losing breath during a note. Thankyou Scotty for that.
Another workshop that we did was a character development workshop where we focused and entered the bodies of each character and walked and talked and thought liek them. this workshop not only effectively enhanced my understanding on my character Paula, but gave me a better understanding of the characters Pauls needs ot relate to. it was also a halrious and funny task and was amazing to see everyone having a go and looking abit silly.

I will soon be finished my noted on the performance analysis task and will be posting another blog shortly with my ‘All my Sons’ information that i have gathered.

Make up
Ms Mc had offered ot teaach me how to aply make-up and i will be helping in the make up team for the musical wherei hope to have lots of practice so i can be pro when i get to ur faces! woo that should be fun especially for u boys hehe

Hair
gordon- needs styled hair and to look quite neat and abit geeky, so that means chanov (yaniv) u cant cut your hair until after the production season.
Mean Dymphna- dymp would not have red streaks so…that mean mel, u need a black hair rinse which i can get for u if u want unless u want to choose it urself
Stephen- good u aswell need to grow your hair so nai and i can style it to look more stephenish..the issue of shaving your legs is still up for discussion hahah

after the production we cnah ave a cutting hair and streaking party it will be fun!
looking forward to our real like bistro embarresment performance where we turn up at different times…will be fun

1. How has the work you are doing been refined and developed over time?
Once casted as ‘Paula’ in the play ‘After dinner’ i began to reas through the script and become familiar with the langueage used and the words said. when blocking began i initially listened to the directors instructions and then went home to think about Paulas relationship with the other characters in the play and her motivations thorughout the scenes that we blocked. while doing this i refined the blocking that we began in class and firther developed my characters personality traits.
In my role as Make-up artist for the show, i have researched information of standard stage make-up and how to aply stage make-up. I did this so o have a basic knowledge and background of make-up which i didnt have before. i further developed my the process by working with the costume designer (nai), and we came to the decision to set the make up and costumes in an 80’s decade style. I am currently in the process of researching and finding pictures of 80’s makeup and deciding the make up schemes for each character.

2. How have u clearly shown your ability to work collaborativly?
As makeup artist my work coincides with the cosutme deigner. we have to ensure that the cosumes and makeup intertwine and match oerfectly for each character.
i have contibuted idead and theories for the stage setup and the design and venue. I was keen to give my opinions of the idea of having a dinner theatre and a real band.

Paula is genuinely a nice person, she cares about monika and is quite interested in hearing her out. she puts up with dympies constant bitchyness. I havnt quite decided wether she is friend with dymp because she truely loves her, or because if she isnt friends with her then who would be?. well i guess ill keep thinking about that.
Paula is abit quirky, and has her won sense of style which Dympie is secretly and jealous of even though she put this quality of paula down all the time.
Paulas motivation for the night is to have a lovely evening with her friends and ot hear AND SEE the band, from the moment she and dympie first talk it seen that paula is frustrated with dympies atitute towards everything!
I would love for the audience to love Paula, and sympathise for her. i hope after alot of reahersing and character buliding i will pourtray her personality perfectly

over the last week, although interupted by PUZZA, we started blocking the play
Scotty our director, produced a rehersal time table so that each lesson we can jump straight into a certain part pf the play.
My character ‘Paula’ is a gorgeous character to play although sometimes i seriously just want to cry coz ‘Dympie’ is so mean to my character…and i find myself becoming emotionaly envolved and getting offended..even though its not me..anyways moving on heheh

we jumped straight into… and i have become familiar and almost fluent with the lines that have been blocked so far…i have also been developing my character by thinknig about the context of the lines and what her reaction would be liek by the other characters lines. i have thought about her motivations and the kidn of person she is and aspires to be. she really is a lovely character…but a nebish girl also

as this week continues we will continue to block and become more familiar with the character and our lines.
